Up to $5,000 Awarded to Researchers Advancing Minnesota History

We're pleased to announce a new Legacy Research Fellowship. This competitive fellowship is designed to support research on Minnesota history that is conducted at the Society’s Gale Family Library. The fellowship is open to any post-college Minnesota scholar.

More than 50 organizations in 32 counties to receive Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants

Dozens of organizations across Minnesota just got a boost in their work to preserve and share our state's history thanks to 58 new Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants awarded by the Minnesota Historical Society. The grants, which can be up to $10,000, are listed by county below.

Legacy Funded Projects Win AASLH Awards

All of Minnesota's eight 2013 AASLH (American Association for State and Local History) Leadership in History Award winners received Legacy Amendment funding for their projects. Four of the winners received Legacy funding through the Minnesota Historical & Cultural Heritage Grants program. The awards help confirm the quality of the work that is being done with Legacy money around the state.

Training and Resources

The Minnesota Historical Society will host 9 workshops around the state in May and June 2013 and will be presenting at the Minnesota Association of Local History Museums Conference to talk with the public about competitive grants available through the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants Program, which is supported by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The Minnesota Historical Society Reaches 1,000 Legacy Grant Milestone

The Minnesota Historical Society has awarded 64 new Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants of up to $7,000 each (listed by county below). This latest round of grants marks a 1,000-grant milestone since the grants, funded by the Legacy Amendment, began in 2009.

48 New Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants and Four New Partnership Grants Awarded Statewide

The Minnesota Historical Society today announced 48 recipients of Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants of up to $7,000 each and four new Partnership Grants totaling $155,410. The grants are being awarded in dozens of counties across the state to help local organizations preserve and share Minnesota history.

The Society also reminds interested applicants that the next grants deadline is January 11, 2013, which may be the final deadline for this 2012-2013 biennium depending upon available funds. The Grants Manual is available at legacy.mnhs.org/grants. Applications are accepted only through the Society’s grants portal at grants.mnhs.org.

“Every year, we receive hundreds of grant proposals for the cause of history and historic preservation,” said David Grabitske, manager of outreach services for the Minnesota Historical Society. “We review each proposal to ensure the project meets established criteria and will preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources. This latest round of grants wisely uses the power of history to transform lives and communities, while building a legacy for Minnesota.”

What do you want to accomplish with history funds from Minnesota's Legacy Amendment over the next 20 years? The Minnesota Historical Society will ask Twin Cities residents that question at two listening sessions on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Historic Fort Snelling.

The Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) is pleased to announce that more than 80 organizations in 37 counties throughout the state will receive Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants for projects that will preserve and share our state’s rich history and cultural heritage today and for many generations to come.
