Project Overview

Recipient: 70 Years Project/IFP Minnesota

The grant allowed research and write a script for a documentary film “Made in Minnesota” on innovations developed in Minnesota as well as the men and women who work to preserve that record of innovation today that contributed to victory in World War II.

The following was completed: Review of Minnesota's wartime production from 1940-1945 by way of government records, newspapers, publications, museums, websites and interviews; Cull from this research the most compelling stories and organize material; Create an outline of stories and draft comments; Finalize a script and identify accompanying images; Share completed work with others.

The resulting research will be made available to students and the general public in addition to producers at local broadcast stations. It will also be made available to the many Minnesota museums (Minneapolis, St Paul, Austin, Granite Falls, Little Falls, etc) that help to preserve these stories. This is especially valuable as we approach the 70th anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War and the surviving members of the generation who fought the war or made wartime materials here in Minnesota are less able to share their own story.
