How to Create a Digital ID in Adobe Reader

You must have a digital ID to sign MHCHG documents. You can create a free self-signed digital ID in Adobe Reader to use when you need to sign documents. Your digital ID will contain your personal information, such as your name, email address and location, to confirm your identity with trustworthy individuals and businesses. Increase your digital ID's security and prevent any unauthorized access by using a strong password and maintaining proper storage of the digital ID file. (Instructions and screenshots are for Microsoft Windows. Mac OS users can also create digital signatures in Adobe Reader but set up will be slightly different).

  • Click on signature field in  form to begin process. (make sure your are viewing it in Adobe Reader when you begin)
  • Select "new digital ID" then click on "Next"
  • Select "New PKCS#12 digital ID file."
  • Click "Next."
  • Fill out your information. 
  • Click "Next."
  • Select where you want to save your Digital ID file and remember the file's location.  
  • Create your password.
  • Click "Finish."
  • You can now sign the PDF document. You will need to enter your password and click "sign."
  • If you are on computer you do not normally use, you can delete the Digital ID file (.pfx). Otherwise once you have set it up you can continue to use it for signing future documents.
